Hello everyone.
Just joined the forum , with the hope to learn more about my landrover and get some advice on issues I am having.

Landrover series 3 has been sitting in the garage for a good few years as a work in progress. Now up for getting it going and on the road. Normally start it every few months to confirm still fires up etc. Last time started in Jan 2013 and after battery charge worked fine.
Today however not having any of it. Think it is fuel related so hope I can get some advice on how to proceed.
Engine does not turn over , tries and tries but nought.
There is fuel in the tank , battery is good.

Don't think fuel is getting thru pump and up into engine. Not able to see fuel in pipes leading up to carb , and none in there when disconnect to check.
Tried pumping lever on fuel pump , does nothing.

Do you think it is time for new fuel pump, or is there anything else I can do ?

cheers

just ebay facet fuel pump

you want the gold flow one, should be a gold coloured 12v pump in a cylindrical shape although their black ones work too

filter just ebay inline fuel filter and you'll see one its a little plastic pot thats see through with a filter inside only bout £3 I think

Cheers Dr Evil , will get onto it now.

only way to check it really would be to remove it and look or fit a working fuel pump and see if it pumps or not

you could remove your current pump, connect to battery and place in a tub of water, if it pumps its the line thats blocked if not its the pump

got it , will start with new pump at least that way I can rule it out.

First thing Id check would be the rubber seal that sits inside the pump on top of the glass bowl. If thats corroded there will be no pressure and it will never start!!

Last time started ok was end of Jan 2013, to old you think?

Asked when did you put the petrol in ;)

If you really don't see fuel in the pipes, then something is blocked or broken. But in the future don't leave petrol in a tank and leave it for years, it will screw things up.

Mick are you sure its not getting fuel? Try cranking it while someone sprays Easy Start down the carb (watch for spit back). If it won't fire on that then most likely culprit is the ignition.

You can just pour some petrol down the carb as well but that's a bit more Heath Robinson stylee.;)

If it does start on the Easy Start etc... then you can take the fuel pump off in 15 mins and check it over, clean it, clean the fuel lines and put on a new inline filter (remember they are one way!).
