Hello. New member so forgive if I sound like an idiot. I'm fairly new to this as I've only had my td5 a few months. Ive done a few things that needed sorting but can't work out what the problem is this time. It's a problem with starting. It's intermissent but sometimes nothing will happen when I turn the key, you can here a click from the outside but that is it. It will eventually start but is annoying when at petrol station etc. I think it's an fault but if not a clue which and where they all are. Any ideas. I'm now gonna try and work out how to get a vid on here so bare with me

To 'ere of course!

Now about your starter motor, the click you can hear is probably the solenoid activating; it's like a big relay that can handle the current needed by the starter motor.
Assuming that is the case then I would suggest that the solenoid needs to be serviced and the contacts cleaned or replaced. Service kits are available from a number of sources.

Thanks Brian47, I'll get the service kit and give that a go.

I'd try basics first, bad earth is a classic for intermittent starting, a jump lead from battery -ve to engine block will help to rule it out....the trouble is you have to wait for it to not start....and then you don't know if it was about to anyway!
