Starting problem Freelander 2 2007 - after using cruise control for first time.

Hi all had Freelander 2 when a company car a long time ago and always wanted my own. One came up lots of history and seemed well looked after (07, manual diesel) and bought it. Just had Land Rover service (all filters). I've had for two months now and has ran like a dream. For first time operated cruise yesterday, seemed to work fine. Then when switched off I noticed splutter in 4th gear when dropped below 2000rpm. When I tried to start later, lights flashed on dash (all very quickly), said checking systems but started. Today cranks over - it seems trying to start but won't. Tried three times only and left at that. Love the vehicle and hope nothing too much - just concerned may be something unusual as seems directly rated to cruise control operation. Just wondering any similar experience out there...thanks for time if anyones picked this up Scott
