Starting Problem after running out of diesel

Just looking for any advise on a problem I have with my disco2, the fuel gage is broken and it run out of diesel, I filled it up with 2 Jerry cans and turned the key once and heard the pump sucking the diesel back through
As I turned it over the engine was trying to start and after a few goes nothing, now I think my starter motor has gone as the lights on the dash work fine, wi does, sunroof and lights but now it just cranks once for a second then nothing, any help would be much appreciated.

Starter motor contacts common td5 thing, repair kits available.
You sure battery is okay?

Did you run the priming cycle after putting the fuel in?

If it ran out of fuel you need to purge the system with the 5 throttle method then push the throttle down while cranking untill it starts but not more than 20 seconds... if you insisted to crank it withouut priming the pump it's possible that the battery got weak so even if it cranks it's not enough power left for the ECU to open the injectors, charge well the battery, purge the system then try again
