Firstly a Happy new year to you all!
Now having had an intermittent starting problem on my 90, I decided to check it today, I found a loose wire and now can't see where it goes!
There are four thick brown wires conected in pairs, these attach into the top of the starter, the loose wire is a thin brown wire and that's the little sod that I've no idea where it should attach ?
Any of you very helpful people know ?

I can't help with your question but wondered if you could describe what your problem was with your starter motor as I think I may have a problem with mine.

Mine goes to turn over but doesn't actually start. It sort of 'clicks' as though it's trying to turn the engine over but doesn't go all the way!

@jaykingfunk, sounds like your starter is going out, mine started to do the exact same thing, click click click, wait a few seconds try it again, then would engage, but then wouldn't turn the engine over, ended up banging it a few times to reengage he contacts and movemement of the shaft. When it was pulled off, the teeth had worn down and there was play in the starter itself, it wouldn't fully engage on the flywheel and not get good contact, after a new one was put on, it was night and day..

Thanks for your response Issah.

I'm going to check all of the connections on it today as it was only reconditioned a year ago!

Might just need replacing all together...:mad:
 
Mine started playing up two months ago, (200tdi) she would start on the button, after taking dogs for their constitution, the key would turn and she just clicked, after several attempts she would start!
This went on for a while until all I would get was the click!
Left her standing for nearly a month (too busy) then went out yesterday, I wiggled the wires by the starter and low and behold she fired up as though nothing was a miss!
Tried to start her when I got home and she refused,even after wiggling the same wires, that's when I found the thin brown wire unattached, since found it goes to the arty so must go to the poz, raining here today so no chance to get her near my garage and remove the starter, going to play safe and fit a new one and refurb the old!

Sounds like you just need to re-attach the control wire :confused:


Download the free Rave manual, there are links on here somewhere you just need to search for "Rave manuals" ;)

If ya still think buyin a noo un is the best bet. Wait until you have taken the old un orft. Ya might find it dunt even need noo solenoid contacts ;)
 
BromsgroveDave, don't tell me that now......... I've just gone and forked out on a Bosch......for only a few beers so alls snot lost !
Picked up a second hander for £50 so happy wiv that, have a spare now!
To bloomin wet here today to ave a look but wever looks okey dokey for tomorrow.

The thin brown wire I guess is the control, that just connects wiv the poz ?
