I have a 1989 110csw fitted with a Disco 300tdi. Generally runs a treat but after a good wading session the starter motor decides not to play ball the next day, progressively getting better and more intermittent over the next three or four days until it's fine again. The solenoid clicks, but the starter just won't turn over.

I'm happy to buy a new starter if this will cure the problem, but am I still likely to get the same thing with a new starter? If so how do I go about making the starter motor and solenoid more water resistant?

Haha, yes there was ;)

I've given the earth straps a look and they *seem* OK, but I'll whip 'em off and clean them up though just to be sure.

Spray ACF50 into them. It will waterproof and prevent corrosion and does not wash off easily. Totally safe on electrical connections.

My aircraft is treat with it every couple of years. It works a treat on my starter!!

I have just replaced my starter,( turns out problem was elsewhere in the ) , and was told its the solenoid that gets the water in , it , I put a silicone seal around the joints of solenoid , not sure if it will make a difference but certainly won't hurt. , you can also get replacement solenoid to rather than replace whole stater
