Hi,
I'm new to the zone and was wondering if any fellow Freelander owners have experienced the problem I'm currently having. When I turn the engine over 8 times out of 10 it will just 'click' but will start eventually. I bought another starter motor last week thinking that was the problem but the next day the dreaded 'click' was back. I have today also replaced the relay and still, wait for it, 'click'. Sometimes when it does start it will be like a real effort and like draining. It can happen when engine is hot or cold. Like I say some mornings it will start fine other mornings it can take 20 turns of the ignition. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks. Nick

Oh dear, mine has started doing this just this morning. It's more of a grinding / clicking noise like the starter can't quite engage. The engine shakes a lot whilst trying to start too. I'm worried ££££££££
She's still under warranty but that only covers me to £1000. Being towed to the garage tomorrow for a good seeing to. I'll let you know my findings :-(

Hi Ming, where would I find the starter solonoid? Near the battery or near the starter? I was kind of hoping NEVER to work on car engines again.
Should I have brought a Freelander if this was my intention? Hell yeah

marksurry. . .time to play your warranty card. . .nick ,as the Wesley says check your connections especially your earth from chassis to engine, also check you're battery it might seem charged but if one cell is failing could give you grief when cold. . .;)

Thanks Wesley, thanks Ming. Ill have a look at the weekend and let you know how I got on. Much appreciated.

Well I've checked the earth straps and connections, all are good. Put a enw battery on, this didn't fix the situation so took it back (battery, not car). It's now in the garage being taken apart after playing my warranty card. Garage seem to think it's a starter problem. Should find out for sure today.
Who thinks warrantys suck? Warranty company said it's down to me to get the car to the garage and the fault diagnosed. I foot the bill for towing and the diagnostics. Bl00dy cheak. Still, cheaper than the parts and labor I guess.

Update on the starter problem.
Ming, you were right, it was indeed the starter solonoid that was screwed. I'm picking her up tonight. If the warranty hadn't of covered it it would have cost around £100.
Wonder what will break next ??

Oh crap
Picked the Freelander up tonight, the starter works again.
On the 1 minute drive back home she blew a head gasket though. What are the f***ing chances? Spewing steam out the back like a steam train.
I assumed the V6 power plant was less likely to do this than the 1.8 litre. Has only 37k on the clock, full service history too. Gutted is an understatement. I'm starting to dislike my car
