Evening all,
I have a P38 1999 fitted with the standard alarm system that all appears to work fine with the led in the window flashing and the immobiliser working fine.

I noticed the other day that the alarm was activated and the indicators were flashing but there was no noise coming from the siren? When i used the keyfob the lights stopped flashing and the screen inside the car stated that the alarm had beet triggered.

Does anyone know if the siren may have been disabled or is it a case of replacing the siren located under the fuse box with a new one?

Would like to fix it as I doubt I'll see the lights flashing while I'm asleep lol!

Many thanks in advance

Pete

PS. I had a look for previous posts and couldn't find one. If there's one you know of please feel free to point me in the right direction.

Depends how long the alarm had been going on for. After a nominal amount of time (I can never remember the exact time) the audio alarm has to shut off, after that point it'll only flash lights.

A simple test would be to sit inside the vehicle and superlock it then thrash about. It'll quickly set off the alarm and you'll either go deaf or have fun ahead of you.

Is it a standard sounder or a BBUS unit? Standard two wires BBUS four wires. Is it connected, are the connections sound?

Well i had a good thrash around in the car this morning and nothing happened so now im thinking the interior sensors are also broken/disconnected. I opened the drivers door and the alarm triggered with the lights flashing but no sound. I put the key in the ignition to check and it said alarm triggered.

Wammers:
Ill check the connections to the sounder in a mo and see how many wires are present. Ill also double check its plugged in and that the connections aren't naff.

Wammers...

Easier than i thought theres a sticker on top of the siren that says bbus and I can see the plug under the fuse box all looks in good clean condition and is connected.

do you think sourcing a new siren from the bay might work? Theres loads on there with the same part number.

First you need diagnostics on it to ensure BBUS sounder is selected in alarm settings. If Klaxon is selected the BBUS sounder may not work. Check fuses 33, (5 amp) and 35, (10 amp) in fuse box. If you disconnect plug alarm should sound for 4.5 minutes using backup batteries unless you use the disconnect the car battery withing 17 seconds trick. Check the contacts just because the plug looks clean does not mean they are.

ah ok si first ill check on the fuses to be sure. When you say diagnostics do you mean test book of is there some other diag equipment i might be able to use to see if the sounder is selected?

Nanocom will do that if you know somebody with one for your model. Don't know if Hawkeye or other makes will. Just check the fuses and connections, think fuse 33 charges the backup batteries and fuse 35 powers it. But it is switched by BECM. You will know it's working if you lock car with fob with a door open, you should get two quick blips from it to indicate a miss lock..

ah well it def doesn't do the miss lock thing as I locked it yesterday with the door open. Its been raining all day so not had a chance to check the fuses yet.

Thanks for your help so far...

Checked the fuses today and they are all fine so I'm thinking it must have been disabled at some point. Hopefully not due to a fault!

I'm going to buy myself a Nanocom this week so will be able to see if its disabled etc then.
