Yes, pretty sure the airbags should be replaced after so many years too. Just hoping mine don't go off!
When airbags were first installed I had visions of unexpected explosions causing accidents once the 10 year period was up, but apparently they are likely NOT to deploy once they are past their sell-by date. Certainly, from my experience of dealing with car accidents of all types, there seems to be no logic to whether airbags deploy or not, regardless of age! o_O:confused:
 
OK I stand corrected, not having checked, I foolishly assumed they would be the same as most other cars on the market and be part of the strap the buckle fits on.

Can't quite see how that would work. Certainly a lot more difficult to do it that way. The reel needs to be turned backwards to tension the belt. Photo of one in link in post #19.
 
They nornally (on most cars) shorten the buckle by around 4-6 inches thus locking the reel and tightening the belt in the same movement. Quite simple really and much easier than reversing the reel.
 
Modern SB tensioners are in the buckle end.... they fire the buckle downwards (or slightly backward too) to pull the seat belt tight against the inertia lock in the reel

Yes ok no problem but the vehicle in question is the P38 were the tensioner is in the reel. ;)
 
There are also seat belt pre-tensioners that are not electrically fired, operating solely on G force to fire the pyrotechnics. Bit like a shotgun with modified trigger :eek:

Didn't know p38 ones worked that way, I've only ever come across the buckle type.
Good to know if mine ever throw a fault!
