Squealing noise from TD5 on idle

Hi there

I run a 2002 TD5 90 and in the last couple of days it has produced a squeal when idling or not under any load. This goes off when under load (revving or driving). Its been a while since I've tinkered with engines and the such, so thought I'd seek advice from you guys before I let myself loose with the spanners!

I'm guessing that this problem will have been dealt with somewhere else on the forum and any signposting or advice will be welcomed, in the meantime I will keep searching.

Is it effected by movement/speed or gear selection? If it does the same thing when stationary, if so it could be one of the idler pulleys on the fan belt?

I think it might be a combination of hot weather and a slipping belt. Mine's doing this a little too. All the pulleys are good so it's not a bearing. I'm not worrying about it.

Does it also do it when you turn the ignition off, if so could be the crank pulley damper

When the engine is underload or driving it goes away, or I just cant hear it, but its certainly reduced. Yes, its happens and is more noticeable when stationary, revving the engine slightly makes it go away. I'll check the ideler pulleys, cheers

Worth checking the tensionser as well, is the same principal as the idlers.

Was wondering if the weather had anything to do with it as I first noticed it after it had been raining during the night, living in Fort William, this is a regular occurrence!!! But it gets better once the engine has warmed up / dried out.

Mine chirrups a bit on first starting the engine. Then again when you put the air conditioning on. As far as I'm aware, all the bearings are OK, it's just a squeaky belt. It doesn't do it in the winter, or when it's been running for a few seconds and everything's spinning at full speed. I think with a slight slippage, the belt warms up a bit and gets 'stickier' so it doesn't slip.
