I dun it!
Just wanted to say a big 'Ta' to everyone who gave their invaluable advice. I've posted elsewhere the longer version of my escapades, but suffice to say the new VCU is in and whizzing round & round in the correct fashion, and everything feels nice & as it should. Missus is chuffed to have saved tons of cash and I've got that 'polishing your knuckles on your shoulder' smugness going on.
And Island 4x4 were super-speedy delivering.
Had a slight scare though - I never got round to re-greasing the back brakes, one started to bind and almost set fire to my new hammerite! It's amazing stuff though, despite actually bubbling up like a cheesy pizza, after it cooled it had stuck fast back onto the drum, like nothing had happened! Naturally much copper grease has now been applied.
