Excellent him and locky must have made it out of a monster lane we went down today :D

Yes we made it out alive. It wasn't really a monster lane, just a lot of tree cutting to do before we could get through. But that lane is now much clearer of trees and should be a bit easier next time.

Davethesparky has just called - said he would look in here later.

I'm here :)

I'm scratching for work this week so could easily lend a couple of hours to the cause, i'm intimately acquainted with all things clutch and gearbox on the 300tdi so assuming it all follows the same basic outline/principle I should at least be able to give the impression of knowing what i'm talking about.

Unless anyone knows a better way i'm thinking slave cylinder out, borescope in and have good old rummage around in there to see what's broken.

still no contact info

Ever get the feeling you've been here before?

Yes and pete tong

it dont matter - its their loss.

I'm still here. Don't forget im 4.5 hours ahead of you guys and internet usage isn't exactly abundant either.

I haven't come on here with a made up problem just to f**k you guys about if thats what your thinking.

PM sent with my wifes details (never thought I'd post that on a forum :p). I've also told her to keep an eye on these threads when I can't.

That would be a huge help. I'll PM you the details too and if you could lend a hand on a day when my brother is off work there would be two of you.

Here is the D2 clutch arrangement (Google image)
disco2_clutch.jpg

The main difference I can see is that the fork pivots in the center as opposed to at one end like the earlier type. This also means the slave on the D2 pushes front to rear instead of pushing from the back on the D1

Unless anyone knows a better way i'm thinking slave cylinder out, borescope in and have good old rummage around in there to see what's broken.

That's what I was thinking and what i've told her to get a garage quote for before jumping in to removing the box.

-remove slave cylinder
-borescope in to look at fork etc...
-if fork is fine replace the slave cylinder while it's off and see what happens.
-if fork is damaged it'll go into a garage for box off.

Do you have a borescope then?

Thanks.

Delicate one - this. Please keep in contact with the op & his missus.
Communication is the key :).

Oh - and don't forget the pics :D

Must be difficult being away from home dude, thanks for your service.

Cheers buddy.

I still seriously hacked off about it TBH. It means that I've effectively spent this month away from my wife and two kids for nothing. The extra money I've earned has been blown on a job that would have been almost free if I was home.

I would have driven it back to Ipswich without the clutch and changed it myself.
