Recently noticed that there was a distinct smell of diesel when I was around the back door of the car - figured it was.. well didn't figure anything really just though its obviously dripped a bit so will get under and have a look at some point
fitted some side steps yesterday and then was tackling a replacement rear step (as its a 7 seat) and that gave me the opportunity to be under that back of the car.. and oh dear.
there is a diesel leak.. bottom of tank, axle, chassis etc had diesel all over presumably blown about.
Can see fuel actually dripping off the bottom of the tank and am like "where the hell is that coming from !?"
Checked the filter pipes, all good. Breather and filler (the bits I can get to from under there) so where might it be leaking?
I've read a lot about the 'green' pressure pipe that goes to the pump wearing through on top of the tank or along its line somewhere.. does this sound typical with that issue?
Easy to do? Tank out?
I have a road side parking spot at best, so I think it'll go into the local LR indy for this.

mmm - amazed how much of a mess it looks under there with a small-ish leak.
I guess there is no real way to verify this, and ensure I don't have a hole in the tank for example without dropping the tank?
I'd love to just pull a pipe (can you get just that one?) but if thats not it I'll kick myself..
Oh for a garage with a ramp

Unlikely to be a leak on the top of the tank, very likely to be an abraded fuel pipe!
Dropping the tank is a pain but worthwhile if you want to have a good look at your rear chassis at the same time.
Try to get as much fuel out of the tank before you drop it, mine had 20 litres in it, which is about 17Kg on top of the weight of the tank, so it was a bit of a handful!

Im sure its more accident than design, that the tank can be dropped out from underneath! Its VERY tight!

When its out you can pop out the fuel pump and check for bits a pieces in the tank, mine had a few!

Had the same issue, was a chafed fuel pipe which I believe was a recall many years ago.
You have to buy a set of pipes which go from tank to fuel filter for around £100 plus vat from Land Rover.
Everywhere I looked on the net it was a tank out job but the garage that did it managed it without for 2.75 hours labour all in.
Hope this helps.

Had the same issue, wanted to fill the tank up full but it wouldn't come up the neck, noticed as it was coming out from under car, checked all pipes and all ok, found that the sender unit in the top of the tank was loose, I.e. Locking ring loose and as I filled up tank the sender unit had floated up and fuel was over flowing, refitted sender and tightened locking ring, so far so good.

I had the green (connector colour) pipe wear through and my local D2 parts place replaced it in 20 minutes.
He had a few spares as its a common fault.

Well.. all right - pipe gone, and replaced by local Indy £120 all in. didn't think that was too bad and saved me the hassle while I was out of the country.
She's back up and running, and not leaving diesel lakes on B&Q's carpark :)

Wow, I though my £70 bill was big for half hour job. (£40 part and £30 fitting)
Well you obviously got a Stella deal or had an easier job, on mine they had to drop the tank to get at the pipe as it was wedged up in there and verify the other pipes as there was a lot of diesel about so considering it was way more than 30 minutes, and they collected and deleivered the 7 miles each way to my house while I was away.. I'm happy to pay 120 :)
What was your issue that was fixed in 30 mins ?

It was the pipe with the green connector leaking, found during MOT so went to a place local to me that break D2's only and know them very well so didn't need to drop the tank.

I think thats a good result! Sounds like you have a 1/2 decent garage over your way!

R Hunts - Salisbury - Very knowledgeable, very polite and accommodating and since this was all left in the hands of my wife to get done as I was away, - very impressed with how they dealt with it to be air, giving her a car to run about in then dropping it back over. Shall use them again when I can't do whatever needs doing on my drive!
