I want to wire them up so they come on with full beam.

I have come accross this;

28/030 cable throughout.

Standard 4-pin relay with 20amp switching capability.

Pin 30: Permanent live from battery + through 10amp fuse.

Pin 87: Relay output + feed to Spot/driving lamps.

Pin 85: Earth.

Pin 86: Connected into headlamp main beam wiring.

This circuit switches the Spot/driving lamps on automatically with main beam selected.

and this;

I've not done vehicle wiring before so bear with me!

Do the pin numbers refer to the relay?

It's suggested using a 20amp relay but this kit come with a 30 amp, does that matter?

Is there anything I need to be careful of?

Thanks as always :)

pin numbers are on the relay and it's better that the relay is rated higher ;)

:O

ok!

one last question, on a freelander 1 what's the best way to wire into the main beam?

I've read about simply stripping the main beam wire a bit and attaching. That sounds scary and hideous and asking for future troubles! Is there another way?

you have to pick up the feed from the main beam circuit if you want them to only come on when on main beam.

i can't think of another way of doing so ;)

you could always wire them on their own circuit, but then they can be switched on independantly of all other lights

Relay? A second one do you mean linking main beam and spotlight wires?

You'll have to excuse me, I'm a complete novice with wiring. I was extremely excited when I managed to swap the stereo over. That's quite how lame I am when it comes to such things!

is an illuminated switch, to alter it to trigger off the main beam terminal 86 for coil + would need attaching in suitable cable to the headlight main beam feed.

Note all wiring should be to size of protective fuse- the diagram shows reduced cable size to lights

I picked up main beam live in the steering cowel, a genuine auxiliary lamp switch from land rover for a fiver. Main live from under bonnet fuse box earth to wing behind headlamp, doddle:D
