Spot Lights

I am looking to fit some long range spot lights or maybe a driving and a spot light.

I have up to £100 max to spend, less would be better.

What would you recommend?

Ring driving lights are cheap and work pretty well- either round or rectangular to suit your preference. A line of four on the roof gives a very bright light for night driving. A pair on the bumper might actually be better IMO.

The central LEDs work as spot lights, and the side ones are flood lights.

Granted, the range probably isn't as good as proper spot lights, but for general use it is awesome. I turn it off when I go past peoples houses as it is too bright.

+1 Thought I have another one on my bumper. With both on gives me around 500m of range (measured via Google earth), at night, pitch black to where I can see a big white fence. May light further but I havnt tried to be honest... Flood lighting however is outstanding, illuminates absolutely everything as if it where daylight.

I'm going to try and get one for the Polo we are taking to Mongolia. They are quite a lot cheaper than when I bought mine

I bought mine direct from China, 50" bar was £90, 17" bar was £50 2 year guarantee

That's not bad, that one I just linked to was £87. The one I bought was £95ish from China, but then came with a £40 customs charge a month later!

The biggest trouble with the LED light are is they often use crappy LED's but the worst if they usually have very poor CRI and poor tint.

KC Daylighters are excellent. A bit out of your price range but look on ebay.

Yeah that did happen to me actually for £23 £3 was VAT I argued it and won.

True but that is why I buy from one specific guy, all genuine CREE / OSRAM

I have been looking at additional lighting and was wondering about the legality of using light bars nd led flood lights on the road?
Also individual lights seem to be very low wattage (eg 18w). Are these sort of things any good as additional fowrd facing driving lights?
Sorry for the hijack but it is kind of relevant!

I've got 4 of them mounted at bonnet height on mine, they work very well and are street legal which many of the more extreme aftermarket lamps aren't.

Additional lights with an isolator switch that only work with main beam are legal.

According to the 1989 lighting regulations, you can have as many additional main beam lights as you like (the two standard ones meet the requirements for mandatory lights.) They can be anywhere you like on the vehicle (including the roof) and you can have any number including odd numbers.

The only requirements for any you do fit is colour (white or yellow) that they are wired to only come on with main beam (with an isolator switch to turn them off entirely if you want) and that they face forward. On a 1991 or newer vehicle, they also have to be E-marked. There's nothing I've found in the regulations specifically saying that 55w is a maximum as is commonly assumed.

That is my understanding of the rules too, however can you buy the huge "off road" type lamps that are CE marked?
