Sport wheels or modular wheels? Decisions...

Can't decide if I prefer the standard 18" sport alloys with road tyres or modular wheels with A/T tyres as my all day, everyday look. I'm not bothered about road noise, it's more about looks really. The 18s look good but will it look harder on some big A/Ts? I already have the modular wheels with no tyres yet as they were going to be my off road wheels but now I'm thinking it will look good on them all the time...

Thoughts?

Got one car on AT's all the time, second is on road ones 18" . Well difference is huge.
That on road wheels is much quieter, better handling ect. Depend on road shape can be much comfortable on long ride. (but you feel every "bump")
AT one is better for rough roads, bumps are unnoticed, but noise is present on higher speeds, handling is a little bit worse.
If you use your car mainly on "black" go for road ones, swap for play.
 
Hello. I tried something interesting. In freelander 1 (98-07) can fit wheels of Mercedes S class perfectly without spacer or distancer or anything. Perfect. Look my photo.

I prefer larger wheels, low profile tyres for everyday use. I went for 17s with 225/60/17 ATs as a compromise.
 
Thanks for the replys guys, think I'm going to stick with the 18s for everyday and use the modulars with mud tyres for playtime! I might stick me some spacers on there to make it look a bit wider though, like the 18s but they look a bit tucked away in the arches for me...
 
Right, quick update to this thread. I was deciding for ages which way to go with this but decided to keep the modulars on for now and see how I get on everyday. It looks too good to take them back off. So may have a full set of 18s for sale but not sure if they sell very well, or may decide to keep them if not? Any ideas or experience selling original wheels? Do people buy them? Cheers

They may fit but they won't fit safely. They're 112 pcd not 114.3 so unless you use wobble nuts your nuts may fall off

Okay, it's numpty Sunday: why are modulars called modulars? I'd imagine that this is because they're made from a stock of standard modular parts to suit whatever application they're to be used for? If so I had imagined they'd be like a split rim, but these appear welded?

Here's the pic of mine on the modulars with 235/70R16 Insa Turbo Dakars and no lift kit as yet. Not a lot of arch clearance but no rubbing or catching yet. BUT not taken it off-road yet so time will tell I suppose! Looks good though yeh!

I do have the spare modular on the back now before anybody says anything!

 
I do a nice line in lift kits when you're ready
