Spluttering TD5

Well i think the splutter is gone, went for a drive and she seems to be pulling a lot better too.
I got a new MAF sensor but once i replaced it i also gave the wastegate another push pull to find it was completely jammed up, so i sprayed a combination of GT85 and WD40 until it released and now all seems to be running sweet.

Below is a list of replaced/fixed parts that got me to the end eventually.

1st was the cleaning out of the ECU which had oil sat in the red plug
2nd was the replacement of the injector loom which had oil ingress right through and the ecu has been cleaned out every fortnight since
3rd A new fuel filter and fuel return hose was replaced due to rust on the filter and leaking hose.
4th MAP sensor on manifold was removed and thoroughly cleaned out
5th MAF sensor replaced
6th the wastegate released as it was jammed

Hope this can help someone else.

I'd start at the cheapest option and work my way up. My landy spends a lot of time sat doing nothing so I tend to give the wastegate a quick work backwards and forwards when I do use it.

My map sensor I try and clean once a year when servicing the vehicle of if I notice its down a bit on power.

Second MAF sensor in 11 months, what the heck!
I did notice when removing the Sensor there was two burnt bugs caught in the mesh so im wondering if this could have been the fault...

So i got hold of a Snap on ETHOS diagnostics system and plugged it in as i had full power until she hit 65 mph, there after it felt like hitting a strong wind head on which slowed me back down to 55 - 60mph and stayed there
once i got the fault code it was indicating wastegate



So started her up and went for a drive with the system plugged in when i noticed the air flow indicator was flat lining, i did another fault code check, this time indicating MAF sensor



So into Dingbro and bought a new MAF sensor, plugged it in started her up and now she powers all the way through. Moral of the story steer clear of 2nd hand MAF sensors..

As you have a defender and not a discovery your vehicle will show a turbo open load fault as the defenders don't have the electronic gizmos of the discovery.

Aye Thanks, I kind of came to that assumption after trying to figure out how the wastegate was communicating with the computer.
