Speed limiting TD4

Hello All,
Hoping for an answer to this one please, Has anyone on here had a TD4 Freelander that's been speed limited. If so how was it done, or if you bought one that was limited and have had it taken off, how was that done too. The reason I ask is due to having to have a Black Box fitted so that I could insure my Teenage Daughter to drive it, (£3500 Vs £550) and I would like to make it less easy to creep over the limit on the motorway.

Somehtin said to me once by an Insurance engineer

Put a sharp spike on the centre of the steering wheel about 6" long.

He recons all accident would stop, and we wouldn't need speed limits.

I recon everyone would just take up walking.

It might be doable in the ECU. (Ie mapped/ programmed), I know that Imported Japanese domestic market cars have there ECU speed limited, (toyotas etc) as that is a requirement in Japan, But its a silly 115mph or something like that ffs....whats the point at that speed....

Might we worth doing a search on google to see.

Not sure on the age of your freelander, but does it not have a speed limit alarm that you can set? It’s only an alarm but at least it’s something.

Depending on the year it may be ODB compliant - dunno if there's and app you can get for a phone/tablet to sound a speed alarm.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies, yep its a good un she is happiest at about 80 - looking into setting a limit via ODB - being a 54 plate there's no speed alarm available. Tempted by the big spike theory :0)

You can't use the OBD2 port, as there's no way to access the EDC or ABS units without expensive equipment .

Put arf pallet of bricks int boot.

Drive slower and look at the dash speed display more often and put a post it ont dash to remind yer of the £3000 saving per year if yer control yer speed.

Honestly I find speedlimited vehicles more dangerous to drive professionally than none ones.

Just get a GPS tracker and warn her about it. Lot of them will ping you when you want if over certain speeds, times, etc etc.

Know 2 people using this exact service on their other half's actually as one has had 3 crashes in 12 months now and along with a dash cam etc it's good to see how they drive without being invasive.
