Tbh I'm not entirely convinced by their diagnosis, a well full of oil is something I've never heard of, leaks yes but a full well????

You tend to get a few drops around the base, the oil tends to burn off quicker than it leaks.

Did they diagnose a bad spark plug then pour oil into the well and claim it's a major job...

Rocker cover gasket £10, cam carrier needs a tube of sealant <£8, rest is labour, in fact some mechanics re-use the rocker cover gasket with a dab of sealant.........you could do it yourself

I wish I could do it NI but I'm afraid my car knowledge is very limited lol

I'm going to nip it into a garage now and see what they say

I'll keep you upto date

Thanks

Get a quote and if you change your mind it's easy.

rocker cover and carrier tightening sequence, you basically work diagonally, working towards the centre, reverse order when lossening....all bolts are 8mm

Loctite 5922 (dark green/grey) thinly spread over the outer parameters and plug wells, doesnt need to be all over the surface (as stated in Haynes and workshop manual)

Thanks for that NI,

The bloke at the garage said it will cost 35 quid which is a lot less than I thought it would be. One thing that bothered me was that he said these cars dont have an actual gasket but has a paste that you put all over and it dry's and creates a gasket, does this right?

Thanks

Yes, as mentioned earlier, a tube of sealant (must be non-hardening), the sump is the same, has no gasket, you apply a bead of sealant.

The K-series engine is notorious for leaks (weepage), robots applied the sealant in the factory.

£35 is a good price, I assume they are just re-using the rocker cover, which is a preformed gasKet
