I was thinking of gathering a small selection (or larger if needed) of spare parts new or second hand to keep in the garage ready for use.
I have two questions:
1. Is it worth doing this? I know I could go down the rabbit hole and end up with a second whole car sitting on shelves but are their a core group of parts that may be worth storing?
2. What are the parts that people would recommend keeping?

I already have a fuel pump and fuel filter as the pump is beginning to sound a bit noisy.

Oh ye I have a FL 1 Td4 53 plate pre-facelift.

We do with the Defenders but it's mostly seals, gaskets and wheel bearing kit, filters, that sort of thing.
Is it necessary on a Freelander?
 
I live very rural and am trying to do all my own mechanical work. The car is currently our only one and we’re not rich so I’m looking at ways of being able to repair quickly and cheaply (within reason). I have started to gather a collection of tools and consumables but just wondered if it was worth keeping a collection of parts. I have another set of drop links on order and I have a lower engine mount that I need to replace so was thinking of keeping the old one and fitting poly bushes in case it’s needed in the future.
I do t want to sound like a hippy but it would be nice to be more self-sufficient.

That's what I did - and I've more than had my money's worth out of it.

You have to find a bloody big shelf in the garage to put it on though :D

I have repurposed it as a garden ornament. What could be more appealing than a life size F1 garden ornament ;)

Mind you, if the rear window regulator, clutch hydraulics, head lamps etc go again... I'll have to get a matching ornament :vb-crazy:

It's good to try and do your own stuff, so well done for that.
Chances are whatever you keep in stock you will never need. Maybe a spare one is a good suggestion worth considering.

Yes I think it is. I fear that I will end up doing g that up and the Mrs will go off her head at me for getting another one.
