Hi guys

Son is hopeing to buy a single insa turbo special track tyre and wheel to match the other's on the landy but as its too big to fit in the back of the landy ( perminantly ) 265 x 16 it will have to live on the back door as the original wheel / tyre did :(

anyway does anyone use 265 x 16 insa turbo special tracks on there landy and have it on the back door and does it sit lower than the rear door and if so by how much :)

Mine has 265 75 r16s and I think it fits fine and doesn't hang over. I will mock it up and take a photo in a bit.

Mine isn't on the rear door now though, as the frame has cracked right across the bottom of the window from it...

Here you go:

It does look pretty cool TBH. Once I get my crossmember replaced I will get a swing away carrier.

I'd fit a spare wheel carrier (swing away) as a wheel and tyre that big hanging on your back door will have it 'broke' in no time at all. My door started struggling so I built my own swing away wheel carrier as they are pretty bloody pricey for what they are.

Right ok mmmm :frown:

I saw a single arm swing away carrier in LRO this month, anyone used one?

It looks pretty cool, though seems a bit offset to the right.

Not seen the one you are talking about but I hate the ones that sit off centre. Even the standard wheel mount on the back door sits slightly off centre which drives me mad!!! I'm a bit weird like that!! The one I made sits bang in the middle, which does make it slightly harder to get to the rear door handle but its something I can live with if it means that the spare sits central. Thats probably the reason that most of them sit slightly off centre though.

This:

Nakatanenga Stainless Wheel Carrier- Black Powder Coated

Looks pretty cool, but no way I will ever be able to afford it!

I am the same, the wheel should be in the centre, think the only ones I have found so far that are in the middle are the Mantec ones.

That wheel will fit inside a 90, on the back of the bulkhead behind front seats is a good place.
I have seen many doors on older vehicles destroyed by having the wheel on it.
Swingaway are ok, but they put the weight a long way aft of the C.O.G of the vehicle. And most of them make it very difficult to reverse into and hook up a trailer.

Yeah, I know. Looks nicely engineered though!

I have just put a Safari Equip carrier on. Galvanised and painted came in at £200ish. Easy enough to fit which was just as well because they forgot to send any instructions despite specifically asking for them. Looks well made.

I think stainless is a bit OTT as it will last longer than the chassis.

Having seen what a standard wheel mount does to a rear door, I went for a swing away. With the extra weight of a big chunky tyre it's going to make it worse. Unless you can reinforce the webs on the door frame first.

Yeah I would very much like the spare mounted on the rear bulkhead but mines a county so the rear side facing seats fit too close to the rear bulkhead and stick out towards the center of the load space so unable to mount the spare there :(

Then that's two things to open with a trailer on the back, think I mite change the seating in the back and mount the spare on the rear bulkhead.

just working out which seats to go for as i still need seating for 4 persons in the back wether to go for 4 x disco1 dickie seats or replace with bench seats

After a week or so with the swing away on I have to say. More than happy.

The back is clear, much more room for tip runs etc. No squeaking or clunking from the wheel on the bulkhead. Looks nicer with it on the back and I haven't really found opening the two things is a problem.

The only issue at all is the angle it locks open at sticks a bit out past the body line so not too keen on opening it full parked at the side of the road. But there is enough resistance in the hinges that it will stay in place half open. The visibility is also slightly worse with the wheel on the back, but at least it blocks out some if my view of tailgaters.
