As the title really, where do you all get your spare parts from and is there an exploded diagram that lists all the correct part numbers?
I'm sorry if this has been asked a thousand times, but we were all new here once.:(
Ps, I do use the search function :D

It is rumoured on the site you buy twice.
For frippery maybe a sensible buying wipers bulbs lens covers fuses etc. There are three grades genuine, patent replacement and buy to bin.

Buy cheap you'll never sleep. Buy expensive you'll sleep soundly.
 
When I was rebuilding my series 3, I used to mostly use LR Direct (https://www.lrdirect.com/). They were competitive on price, and if you search for a particular part number, the web site was very clear which manufacturer the options were from, relative pricing and availability/lead time. I never tested their part knowledge as I was ordering particular part numbers.

I used Paddocks for a while, but if something goes wrong with an order with them, good luck getting it sorted out.

John Craddocks and Rimmer Bros are probably very useful if you actually need to talk to an expert to find the right part.

Or just use LR Workshop (https://www.lrworkshop.com/) to hunt around the parts diagrams to find the part number so you don't need to talk to an expert. The 'Land_Rover_Series_Part_Catalogue' (or equivalent for whatever series you're working on) is very useful to show every part you need, but the LR Workshop allows you to look at part numbers across different areas of the vehicle or alternatives, which can be useful.

Oh, and don't forget ebay. That can be very useful for finding odd items (and often seems to save on postage costs if you only need one or two things, since the bigger suppliers tend to have minimum delivery costs that aren't cost effective for small/cheap items).

Bull**** to the nay sayers. Nothing wrong with the majority of Britpart parts, chances are they come from the same factory as parts you're happy to pay twice as much for.

They all need a regulatio BS..
I couldn't have rebuilt my S3 109 for 10k if I didn't use BP parts, just use some common sense as to which parts you fit where.

Agree completely with this. Britpart are also now the OEM supplier for a lot or parts, they have spent a lot of time and money buying up the supply chain in the hopes of creating a monopoly. Wherever you get your parts form I would be trying to get OEM rather than pattern parts. At least that way they should theoretically be the same spec and quality are the original.

If your on the bones of your arse and are used to junk then yes. Quite acceptable. I have been sold such and can honestly say every part has either been unfittable or prematurely failed. It’s why retailers avoid telling you their supplier and go to great lengths to keep it from you until the blue box of shame lands on your doorstep.
 
Then our experiences have differed, which is fine.

I've fitted many blue box parts over the last few years and yes some are of poorer quality, but I've yet to find any completely unworkable.

My outlook on it was I'd rather do my rebuild for a reasonable cost fitting Britpart where I can and perhaps fit OE quality stuff where I'd rather.

I've had to go back and replace a couple of items along the way that didn't last as long as I'd hoped, but I'd rather initially fit cheap and replace with better quality later when needed, than double or triple my budget to only fit OE quality parts where it might not have been necessary.

That is not a Britpart problem that is an all parts problem. I use Delphi lift pumps over britpart ones because they are oem. The britpart pump lasted me about 3 month, the Delhi’s ones last me me about two years. The original lasted nearly 20! All parts quality is just poor these days compared to what was being produced in the 80’s. And if you go
Back to the 50/60’s the quality was even higher. Just look at how much land rover used to galvanise on the original series 1!

So the 4 replacement radiators smashed to hell in thin Britpart paper boxes isn’t their fault. Even though it’s an accepted fact all couriers don’t take any care with their deliveries. And I suppose the two leaking exhaust seams (illegally) are not their fault either. Need I need to go on.
 
Based on my experience use the Land Rover workshop site to work out what you need and then get it from Landrover Direct per TheMegaMans suggestion. Go for OEM. You get what you pay for. Steer clear of anything Britpart as it will be shi….t.

Had no problem with them with wrong order...sent me 2 front shocks instead of rears 1 phone call and was sorted... sent here to Portugal with a follow up email saying keep the fronts as not cost effective to send back...

I've been out of touch with landrovers for a few years, the spare parts place I used to use no longer exists. Shame as they were very good and supplied bearmach gear.
 
I like Paddocks. Always been great with me. Plenty of times they have gone out of their way to help me out. I live in Lincoln so just near Rimmers. Very good but mostly a lot more expensive that Paddocks. Best website for details about parts is Craddocks and I think if money were no object I would solely use them. As for Britpart they are a lucky dip. Recently got a dipstick tube of theirs that was beautifully finished and packaged and seemed very cheap for the quality. Not a life or death type part but even so. I've also had lots of other parts of theirs that aren't even close to fitting properly. That's my two penn'eth.
