Sourcing Classic Rear Quarter Window seals

Hi guys

Bought my first Range Rover at the weekend, a very very tidy 91 Classic.

The problem at the moment is that the rear quarter window seals are starting to perish on both sides and I suspect let in water.

I tried Land Rover and they quoted £100 per side which is a little more than I wanted to pay . I was just wondering whether anyone knew where I could get hold of some at a more sensible price, i.e non-genuine or salvaged.

Fairly specialist part that, don't think you'll find anything but genuine. Try ebay shops, range rover classic recycled parts is good, always breaking them, email him and ask if he's got any.

Why do you suspect they let in water? Is there water in your boot?

The only positive to take from this is that if you've found water in your boot, you know you've bought a GENUINE Range Rover Classic! Be prepared for lots more of these, er, lovable characteristics! Have you checked under all your carpets yet?!

You can purchase rubber restorer/cleanser which basically helps to keep it from hardening and cracking/perishing.why not try that ? It would appear from what you said "you only suspect their leaking "
Have you tried the breakers .You could always use a sealant,untill you come across some at the price your prepared to pay,bearing in mind that the vehicle went out of production quite some time ago.

I will give those Ebay shops a try. Honestly £100 a side is a crazy price for a couple of bits of rubber.

The seals have perished to the extent that a can see a small gap about 10cm long.

The reason I only suspect it's leaking is that the carpet in the boot is slightly damp and I haven't looked into this any further yet, it could of course be coming in from the tail gate but I think it's probably a good idea to get these seals replaced.

I have checked under all the carpets and so far the only wet place was in the drivers footwell. Don't know where this is coming from but so far I have just taken out the carpet and rubber backed foam so that it can dry out and then start looking. As far as I know it's not the heater matrix as the coolant hasn't needed topping up.

Any ideas?

Oh well there's a project for the next couple of weeks.

If it's that bad mate then yeah I'd change it. Bound to be a 2nd hand one in better nick than that. Water was getting into my boot through a rusty gutter on the top of the top tailgate (replaced it with aluminium) and I found that where the roof gutter drains (straight down the D pillar) it was overloading those two plastic vents and actually letting water in. I stuck two pieces of black rubber in the drain holes which divert the water onto the back rather than down the side. Try all areas with a hose pipe and see.

I got water in my front footwells because it was flowing through the door and being chanelled onto the back of the door card by the plastic film on the inside. It was where the door speakers a set in. Again, take off the door card and get out the hose!
