sounds stupid

sounds stupid i know but can anybody give me a good reason to put the front bumper back on my 110?

stripped it all earlier to get the rot sorted and have put just the winch bumper adaptor plate and a-bar on, but now i really like it how it looks now and it seems to give a huge amount of extra reach with the front tyres.

surely if anything was going to get hit down there then it would get hit if the bumper is present or not????

i was thinking the same the other day. i used to run an SJ with no bumper with no issues. mines all bent from hitting the ground so i'll probably full mine off too. just helps protect the front from knocks here and there really

I don't know whether you have to have one fitted or not, I've seen a few about that don't. I know what you mean about it looking good, I've thought that before in the past but i think I'd still rather have something there. Have you got a picture that you can put up?

well i have put a tiny tiny winch on there and a plain a-bar so i like the emptyness of it now. and the approach seems a lot better. i can see the ball and all sorts but then again, i always could!

just wondered if 1. it was legal and 2. if i was missing something that means it 'needs' to be there

seems the only real perpose for it is if you drive into something exactly the wrong high, width and position, otherwise its just in the way a bit

I'm half tempted to whip mine off, fit the A'Bar alone and then put a couple of jate rings on the chassis rail, should look nice.

i cant think of a ligit reason for it to fail an m.o.t for not having a bumper.

the only rule i know of is it cant be sharp edges if it is there, but if its not there..............................

Unless you notify your insurers you may invalidated your insurance, since they'll regard the changes as 'modifications' to the vehicle. If you do tell your insurers your premiums will probably increase.
It could be argued that the bumper is fitted for a safety reason...ie to distribute the force of any impact evenly rather than trying to impale children on the chassis frame or making a Fiat Panda Kebab
Could be classed as dangerous parts ... but hey, you may never know till you drop in the ****.... do you feel lucky?

i have never reslly been a 'luck' one! but then again it spends so little time on the road that it always seems stupid telling the insurance anything! maybe ill call them tomorrow and have a word, see what they say. or maybe it fell off and i didnt notice :5bangelsad2::5bangelsad2:

If you have even a low speed front impact doing say 5 to 10mph into a post or something solid without a bumper your Landy is likely to be an insurance write off. With a nice solid bumper.... a simple replacement and no claim required. Thats why bumpers are fitted

The best option would be to have one made that is out of the way. Maybe from a round tube that sits higher up the front maybe on the same line as the grill and light trim.

soooo, maybe if i fitted it cut down in length??? would just like to gain the freedom in front of the wheel.

just take it off. i may leave mine on as my missus drives it...into things. my be foolish to remove it!

Imagine the damage even a small frontal impact with another vehicle or a solid object would cause. Wings, radiator, grille, lights even the front of the engine completely unprotected. Plus there's the possible legal isue after you impale somebody or something on your protruding chassis rails. Silly idea imho. With the bumper in place most stuff will just bounce off.
