Soundproofing and undersealing

WD40 is good stuff BUT as you say it isn't a long term solution

I would definitely recommend a Hard coating "paint" instead of a thick tar like stuff because it has a habit of letting rust grow unnoticed especially if its painted on a dirty chassis

Yeah that's my concern. In terms of prep I'm carrying out a scrape/chip off of all the old coating and any rust build up then a firm wire brush and a going over with 60grit before a wipe down with panel wipe so I think that's enough for the paint but I'm not sure what to do before I treat chassis internally? Was thinking jet wash with drain attachment then just let it dry. Also does anyone have any experience of Rustoleum? I can get it for the price of a drink of a friend who owns a fencing (wooden posts and such not pointy swords) company. Or am I better off with the buzzweld?

Blasting water inside the chassis is probably not the best approach, it would takes ages to dry out. When I had mine done the guy used an extremely high pressure air gun with a needle jet. I thought the chassis was clean until I saw the mountain of crap that came off it. Then used Dinitrol products. Came out like new.

No experience regarding rustoleum unfortunately.

Don't introduce water because spraying a coating onto even Damp metal will cause it to corrode coz chassis take an absolute age to dry oot lol

@Sofasurfer @funrover makes sense, have to get it done before the really wet weather sets in then.
@Sofasurfer was that at a dedicated chassis treatment place and would I get an acceptable result with a normal air feed at matey's garage? I can imagine the sh ! t that'd get blown out though

Yes, it was a nationwide undersealing company that do both Waxoyl and Dinitrol. I don't think the air pressure is a problem, it's the wand containing the jet that creates the focused blast of air to cut through the crap that might be tricky to find. Took 5 hours to clean and 2-3 hours to treat. I had it done at Egham while I waited.

I used waxoyl under seal it comes in aerosol and in tins. I wouldn't advise usuing any paint type products unless you are taking it back to bare metal

I think most people concentrate on the underneath tinfoil looking sound proofing which is to stop sound comming through, once the sound is in the cab it bounces round. Apparently the foam that looks like egg box is good as it absorbs the sounds that DO get in. Tempted to use it for my rear roof liner. Doesn't look bad in black either
