Hi Guys,
Well another evening spent making some progress. The main focus being changing the netural switch on the manual gearbox (p38 95 DT). I had tried all sorts but managed to find a piece of thinwalled octagonal tube at work that someone had turned in to a box spanner. It fitted a treat and enabled me to change the switch from under the car with prop shaft still in place.
My joy lasted about 2 minutes until I started her up and the select manual was still on the message centre when I pressed the high/low range button (it also flashes on when starting). The switch that I took out showed continuity when tested. So do I put a seperate switch in or drop the gearbox and change the X-Y unit on the top of the gearbox. I am doing this all on the drive with axle stands....No brainer really I guess. I am keen to use the low range as I hope to get her muddy and at least go down some green lanes etc. Any thoughts?
(Just about to post and I supppose I could short the connection for the manual select connector and put another switch wired in series on the dash with the H/L slect switch so both have to be pressed to select H/L. I have young children who climb all over the car. Plus the missus might just press it whilst going along when she drives it).
Also changed the gaitors on the gear lever and hand brake to new leather, so I now have a DT with a bit of leather! Two hours but quiet pleased.
