well today some @rseh0le has driven into the back of it when parking; the spare wheel has bent the tailgate and now the window won't go down fully. It does enough to open and close the door securely but wont go down more the half way as the glass is fouling on the inside of door.

needless to say they didn't leave a note. they must have hit it with some force as the metal has creased and paint cracked.

I am now very p1ssed off indeed as you'd probably imagine.

so my question is this do I;

-allow wife to claim on her insurance (she was driving when it happened)

-try and fanny around with fitting a new tailgate (don't really want to as I need to sell it anyway)

-chuck it on ebay as it is and get as much as I can in an auction.

A damaged car is not worth a lot, either fit a replacement tailgate yourself or take it to a body shop to get the damaged door fixed. May cost less than you imagine.
Personally I would not go down the insurance route.

Changed one last month and it took a bit of hinge jiggling to get it to close properly and it is quite heavy so get someone to help you.
Plenty of Hippo tailgates available - Seem to be about £50-£60 from breakers, but you should get your money back and more by selling the bits off your old door on ebay.

And don't forget, the facelift door does fit the earlier models but you will have to swop over the trim at the bottom.

Someone else had this problem - forgotten who but they just attached a rope to the spare and to another car then pulled it straight....depends how bad it is I suppose.

Having just done the window regulator in a tailgate I'd say if you get a S/H complete door strip both and use best from each..
