Hi guys

So this weekend I am taking out the sagging headliner and going to hopefully find the leaks to repair.

I was planning on painting the headliner mat black but I am now having second thoughts, the problem is that I don't think ill be good at recovering it in material and thats why I was going to paint it, but if there is a company near me that would do it I may consider that option price depending.

I am in East Sussex (small town called Seaford) do any of you no of a place I could try ?

Just paint it with aerosols (it'll come out matte or satin at best, anyway) and then if its crap then it's only cost you less than £20 to try :)

I am planning to use a product called NyloTrim. I got a quote from a local upholsterer who uses it. He charges £380 to supply & fit to a D2!! you can get it from thebay for a reasonable price together with the adhesive. It's foam backed so doesn't crease (so they say!)
 
Just done my roof lining and a,b,c pillars in a foam backed velvet material.
Proper foam backed stuff fits into all the nooks and crannies nice and easy.
3 Metres by 1.5, fine for my P38 in beige. £25
2 spray tins of trim fix £15
And a day in the sunshine cus I did it on my drive.
Pix if required.
It was easy. Just measure twice cut once and allow enough material for recesses.

Thanks for your reply's I am still not totally convinced ill be up to the job of covering it and not buggering it up. I have found an upholsterer near me today so ill give them a call and see how much it would be to to cover it and ill prep and re fit. Could you link me to the NyloTrim you found or another supplier with good quality foam backed material as my wife may be far better at doing this part than me, I have looked and there seems to be a lot out there, its always better to go with a tried and tested company I think. anyway what ever happens I need to get this out and fix these dam leaks this weekend. Again thanks for your info I am really glad I have found a forum with helpful people. :)
 
D1s and 2 aren't worth that much now, so why devalue it further with painting the headling? and not recovering DIY if you have the skill, or professional as £380.00 all in seems reasonable and the workmanship will have a guarantee.
 
I have redone several roof liners, one on a Range Rover and one on a Freelander. It is not a hard job, just make sure you get the right stuff.

In my experience, you will do a better job painting on the contact adhesive instead of using the spray on stuff. Just make sure all the old foam is brushed off the liner before sticking the new material on. I also use the recommended primer, to both clean the liner and prep it.
