Any landy garages or mobile mechanics etc anyone can recommend in mid Cornwall.

I’m looking to have some one cast there eye over my new disco 2 v8 before I start tinker with it.
Don’t want to start replacing headlining Etc if there’s a big money pit hiding away.
And want a trusted landy opinion not some rando garage, I’m new to landys and just needs some advice.

cheers all

You need to put where you are, not postcode just general area only

I can't comment on the V8 side of things but the first place to start is a good look at the chassis from front to back. Roof linings (the fabric) do sag but check to see if there is any water ingress that has stained the lining, causes are numerous. Water leaks in front foot wells etc. Meanwhile if you've noticed anything yourself whilst driving it, it might be easier to post it on here which would give you a bit of an idea on cost as potentially there can be many problems depending on it's history.

Thanks Andy, the only issue i experience on my 6 hour drive home with it was play in the steering which made it quite wandering and unpleasant. not had the chance to crawl around under it yet to check it out.

Hi, glad it went ok. So the steering could be play in the track rod/drag link, play in the steering linkage universal joint or play in the steering box, which can be adjusted out, under inflated tyres, to name a few:). (If it had a very recent mot I'm sure one or more of these would/should have been noticed/advised). So have a look at it & hopefully it'll be an easy fix, good luck.

On a V8 look for an empty or low coolant reservoir which could be signs of it needing a head gasket job (not a deal breaker IMHO as it's not a hard job), front drive shaft, OEM temp thermostat, depending on your location check the rear frame section for rust, if it has sun roofs chances are they leak so check the floor for rust, and make sure the electronics work (interior fuse block can get wet), Check 4Hi/N/4Lo operation as the interlock solenoid can sometimes go out. Let the engine fully warm up on a test drive and listen for any knocking or loud ticks. Invest in a Land Rover specific diagnostic tester like a Nanocom or a Foxwell NT model.

LR's are awesome vehicles, but it really comes down to how they've been treated by the previous owner which is true for any used car really. If you are mechanic savvy and aren't afraid to troubleshoot or do some of your own repairs then owning a LR is a great experience.

Thanks for the reply juke. Well I drove the vehicle 300 miles home and it ran great other than the steering having play. No coolant issues and when I checked in the morning the fluids were all spot on with nothing used or leaked and no oil underneath.
Only issues I know about are the knocking/click on full right lock, the steering and a water leak from the alpine glass.
As the headlining needs doing I will do the glass at the same time and inspect the sun roofs.

Im guessing the alpine glass is bonded from what I have read but on the other side it seems to have a seal any ideas?

Also the clicking/knocking on right lock sometimes, would a CV joint be the most likely offender?.

cheers all
