Some Series Land Rovers at the Dorset Steam Fair...

A few nice Series Land Rovers attended which added to an already brilliant day out yesterday....





















Not Land Rover related but worthy of a gander....

Shame you only seem to see showcase landies at most shows, they are nice to look at but you know that when the show is over, they go back in their cosy storage until next year. Great pics though Paul.

Would have been nice to get there on Sunday, but after queuing on the A354 for several hours I turned the Landy around and headed off home.

Still, my recent overhaul of the cooling/heating system obviously worked as I had no problems with engine temperature sitting for hours in stopped traffic.

I set off from Basingstoke just after 6.30am, a completely clear run and arrived about 8am, one stop to grab a coffee.
Ther wasn't a queue anywhere and drove straight in to the fields. Left at 5.30pm and drove straight out of the field, no queueing at all and a clear run home, although roads were generally busy ish being Bank Hols. I expected delays both going and coming home but got lucky I guess.

Well, I need to get up and out earlier next year. To be fair we didn't hit the A354 until about 11am when it was stopped solid.

As said above, it's great to see the minters and I admire the dedication and skill that has gone into getting them there, but I personally prefer the working vehicles with their dinks, scrapes, patina and character especially as landrovers were created to endure less than perfect conditions and operators of varying talent!!
To me, this is perfection!!


I would love to visit the great Dorset steam fair one year. I am led to believe it's a sight to behold.

That Matador also floats my boat!
I'd never get away with that though!!

I exhibit my battered old series three at the Farming yesteryear show at Scone Palace. I'm always in the light commercial section along with quite afew other landies. They are all of the rivet counter, better than they came out the factory type. While they are beautiful to look at, they clearly never get driven.

My truck was built to work, and still does after nearly forty years. It is battered, has terrible paint work covered up by chipped fergie grey and currently no paint at all on the badly stripped bonnet (my bad, used sanding pads that were supposedly suitable for aluminium - they were not). It always looks out of place but I dont care, he's mine and Im proud of the battle scars.

The Glen Isla classic car club has an exhibit there every year as well. There are a few landies in that club - I keep meaning to join myself. One is a nice old 109 pick up that has plenty character and another is a gorgeous series one owned by the same old guy for about fifty years I think. Its still on its original paint which is scuffed to hell. Looks absolutely amazing though.
