[SOLVED] Anyone able to join an aluminium air con pipe??

Hi,
the air con pipe has split due to corrosion on the little P clip under the radiator.
can these be joined - either by adding new male and female unions and flared, and if so... does anyone know a man that can in the nottingham area?
I'm almost tempted to "durafix" the pipe back together -as it seems a good "buy" with aluminium welding (or soldering in effect)
 
Yes Thor.. I do need a new pipe... but getting one is a pain in the ar5e and not easy! - i think I have found a breakers yard in Hull who has one in stock... going there on thursday for:-

- Engine to Bulkhead Coolant Pipes (from the IRD to the heater matrix)
- Air Con Pipes (under the Radiator to the condenser)
- Gearbox to Engine Bolts (all)
- Starter motor Bolts
- IRD to Gear Box Bolts
- Heat Shields from under the car and around the turbo area
- Plastic Battery Tray
- Driver Side Wiper Arm
- Steel Vacuum Pipe and all flexible Vacuum pipes – including expansion vessel
- A cheap set of Alloys would be really nice. with Road worthy tyres
- Half Leather Seats for the front.
all for a good price too!
 
Ideally, a new pipe is best but sit down comfortably before asking the price !!! :eek::eek:
If you can get a good s/h one that has no signs of chafing etc., it should be fine.
Another avenue to explore is to Google "Pirtek" I am sure they will have a branch in your area. Take the hose assembly to them and they should be able to repair it...they have the facilities to repair aircon hoses, which are different to the normal hydraulic hose assemblies.

ah.... PIRTEK not used them since 1997!!! - Cheers Irish Rover.... I will see what thursday brings first, then contact PIRTEK, or Mansfield Radiator (who are 2 miles from me - maybe 1Mile)

You are a tight git John. JUF102480 only about £76.00 for a new one. :D:D:D
 
76 quid is that genuine?????? a second hand one is thirty quid and its not guaranteed.
I'm struggling to find someone (not LR) to supply one....
it might cost me more than 76 to get PIRTEK to repair it....
Thanks for the Part Code - I will confirm it is the right pipe!

If that is the pipe yes that is how much it is. From Rimmers. Depends what engine it is i suppose.
 
Its a TD4 september 2003 (so the later car)
Its the aluminimum hose with a union facing skywards on the NS of the car for about 350mm, then swaged into a rubber hose of about 15mm OD, for about 200mm, then back into an aluminimum hose, with a fitting to bolt onto the condensor.
 
It looks like it WAS this one:-

but now
JUE000610
prices are ranging from 35 to 75 quid!

so OBVIOUSLY - i'm NOT going to repair the pipe, and NOT gong to get a second hand one either!

Hiya Tony...how's things up in Preston Bud ????
I'm going back in time, when I had the P38 and the hose sprung a leak from the compressor. We were living in Ireland at the time and disregarding the price of shipping, it was very expensivefor a new one, more than the cost of the Freebie one (As per usual).
Anyway, took the old assembly into Pirtek in Dublin and they made a new one up, using the old ends and from memory, it cost around €35 (Say £25). The inner part of the hoseis a type of PTFE lining as the R134a refrigerant will react with normal rubber type reinforced hose and leak through.I remember that they also had a TIG welding set and a guy that was coded to weld high pressure pipework in Ally & Steel..
I have a problem with the aircon on Er Indoors Vectra...got the P38 disease.....hole in the Condenser :eek: bit more of a pain to do than the old P38 !!

Good mate. Yep R134a or any other refrigerant for that matter bleeds through rubber pipes over time they become porous. Don't know if the pipe i quoted for the Freelander is the correct one. But it was the only one anywhere near a P clip so maybe it is. Lot of cash for a couple of feet of alloy with a connector on each end though. Land rover pricing is not an understandable system don't know where they get them from. Looked at some genuine ABS sensors before for someone. Fronts about £40.00, rears same thing with a slightly longer cable over £300.00, you couldn't make it up.

Mine has gone as well same hose at the P clip.
I have a quote in my hand from Famous Four for part no JUE000610 £41.00 + VAT.
I hope summers over as I need a new offside driveshaft first.
Well I hope its the driveshaft.

Seems to me if you have a small problem with a Freelander its best to leave it.
If you fix it something else will go wrong immediately which will be a lot more expensive.
 
just for future reference i do aircon pipe and hose repairs as well as regassing. im based in nuneaton
 
Also replace the p clip as it's the rubber compound which causes the pipe to corrode through at that point

There's a bulletin issued on it on TOPIx
