Hi guys :)

So last year I owned a Disco 2.0 MPI (I know..) that belonged to the infamous 'Girly Landy' before me. I only owned it for a very short period due to the terrible economy! It was worse than a V8 we used to have!

After moving onto the Landy Zone forums with you guys i've been lurking in the background looking through threads & i've now started scanning through eBay and Gumtree trying to decide whether I should go for one again.

I currently drive a diesel Vectra as my daily driver but the thought of a Disco TDI for the coming winter months is really taking my fancy.

Give me reasons to come back to the dark side of Landy ownership guys?!

Here's a pic of my old one from the for sale add.

because a disco is a real car, a car with character, a car for real men.

not them overpriced breaky downy tratter things, thats allus covered in cow **** and dents because its obviously only farmers who drive them and they cant drive between gateposts without a bit of touchy feely. or them gaylander things, which it is scientifically proven, driving one really does enhance female hormone development. until the doors fall off.

and lets face it you're bored with the vectra.

just dont get another mpi!!

Often wondered how an mpi would fare with the 620 ti turbo lump fitted,200bhp would make it more interesting I would think.

You'd have to rev it to hell everywhere. Weight doesn't need power to trickle through the undergrowth at slow speed, it needs torque .. not something the 620 had in abundance! (An old boss had one!)

Having said that, I doubt it could be worse than standard .. ;)

They really are an all round vehicle one day ill have seven people in it goin out for a meal, the next day ill fold the rear seats up for some trips to the tip as they wont allow my transit in lol, and then at the weekend ill go green laning, they have a great driving position and is very comfortable to drive so whats not to like lol,oh and easy to fix and get spares for too

I think you should go for it. In my experience LRs are no more unreliable than any other make, it's just that most BMW/Audi/Mondeos are scrapped by the time they are 15 years old.

Mind you avoid V8s if you want to avoid daily trips to the petrol station, and as you found the MPI is the worst of both worlds, poor economy and low torque. It's got to be a turbo diesel all the way.

Your biggest problem will be finding a decent, cheap insurer:D:D. I'm told Lancaster & NFU are pretty good ;);)

LOL I see what Tazz did there!

The V8 man says it all really
The TD5 is a fun little lump of torquey engine :D
Regarding drving through gates without touchy feely a la tratterers: The Disco is a wide beast so 1st you have to get it Central between the posts and then she'll go through fine.

Diff.

The TD5 is a brilliant engine, providing you keep on top of the maintenance it won't let you down. As for comfort in a D2, well that depends on your stature. Too tall and the seat wont move back far enough, too short and you end up with the steering wheel in your chest (I speak from experience). I'm on my second D2 TD5, but considering a TD5 Defender. I found the Defender to have a much more comfortable driving position and far more comfortable than the current D2 or Series landys I've had in the past.

Hurrah, I'm not the only one who finds the Defender more comfortable than the D2. Whilst it has the elbow problem, the headroom advantage more than makes up for it.

Just get one I've had mine for 3 months now and it's quite simply the best car I've had the thought of a vectra I don't even want to talk about that. Just take your time looking theres plenty about. Roll on winter I can't wait.
