...and going back to look at it again sunday with a view to bringing it home :)

Its an L reg defender 200tdi with 150k on the clock, and seems very very tidy for a 20 year old vehicle, no corrosion anywhere.

Key points:
-the chassis has had x-member replaced, chassis + outriggers appear solid and waxoiled nicely.
-All brake lines have been replaced with copper ones
-Fitted with disco 1 axles, and got new disc brakes and pads front and back
-The seller owns a workshop and seems to build them from scratch for people to order.

I only had a brainfart the other day - where are the VIN plates on these? I never thought to check the first time I looked around it.

Also, what are the telltale signs that its a ringer/got stolen landy bits on it? I'd hate to spend my hard earnt and then find its not legit.

Which numbers on the plate should also be on the V5?

thanks

Vin plate should be on brake servo and there should be a stamped in number on the side of the chassis at the front by the osf wheel.

Rawly, done :)

Jason, ill keep this in mind. Daresay ill have to scrape off a fair layer of waxoyl to find the number

I don't know a great deal about Waxoyl myself, but from what I've read on this forum it can pay to be wary of thick layers of it as if a rusty chassis is waxoyled then it can continue to rust underneath. Just a thought.
