Well I tried taking pics but it was too dark! I'm havin my food now and I'm going back out again after in search for more! I'll try take a vid from inside while driving lol well my misses will

Went for a play last night. Seemed to have to much grip as to make her slide you have to go faster to a point that is dangerous. I like to test its handling to practice in case I do start slipping. Good job as I now know slight brake imbalance as she skids slightly at an angle.
Also had some nob head try to get an insurance claim out of me. A Micra going fast for it but a bit slower than I could go. At a mini roundabout I was turning left and he didn't indicate so I put foot down approching the roundabout only to find he did turn and was now there for a bit closer to him. Not tight up but just closer than I would have liked. Then a right bend 20 yards after he slammed on brakes and pulled half on to kurb I easily pulled up but normal car would have hit into rear side. His wheels were locked up as he stopped and there was no need for it so sure he was trying to make me crash.

I find all this going out looking for trouble a bit odd frankly. Could be that I'm just a BOF but if you are out in your Fleeby and you see a Monte Carlo blue SW, stay well away cos it could be me and I donts want you testing any of your anti fall orrf the road systems near me.
I'm no a fan of the white stuff - can you tell?

I don't mind the white stuff - but then I haven't made any unnecessary journeys - I have quite enough of that 'fun' just getting to the nearest tarmac. But it's pleasant and safe in my Freelander.
As for testing anything - I can assure you none of my 'bits' need testing or are liable to fall off - unless it's the personal 'bits' that I'm very attached to.

Freelanders are unbelievably good in the snow.
I have no idea why - I guess the 4WD system is just really suited to it.

The system is basically designed to stop slippage and sense it so on snow very good
it does it very well, impressed the hell out of me my first time on snow

Ha ha, Five years in chunky I know exactly what it will and wont do (in 4 and 2 wheel drive). I'm sure you are not one, but have seen many an over confident 4x4 in the ditch and Fiesta's trundling along just fine. Now you may actually know how to handle a 4x4, plenty on here can (and I do not profess to be one of them) so please do not take as in any way personal

Not at all. And I was poking fun. Lol .
Every situation merits a different approach. I was nearly caught out Saturday on a steep angled deep snow down hill. I'd forgotten it had a gulley and whilst sitting in first and letting the engine take it down in a controlled manner the rear decided to head ditch wise. Dropped in low and got in back. I imagine for you guys the yellow button would be used there?

Just back in from digging a path to the Freelander and it feels like some bits of mine may well 'drop orrf' - the wind chill factor is pretty high.
We had a furious horizontal blizzard an hour ago and there is more forecast for tonight.
Snow-drifts along our road are building up to about 3' deep in places.
As long as they are far enough apart I can take a run at them in the morning on the way to the local town.
Great fun - NOT - but I have confidence in the Freelander.
There's a sense of achievement in just getting to Tescos in these conditions.
I'll try for a pic or two on the way if possible.
Anyhow it's now dark and time for the Gluhwein.

Ah, you a Defender man!! Like it. Yes HDC for decents. Tbh, I've only used it once and that were some time ago. It works (hope mine still works). I have no experience of low range but aiming to change the Fleeby in not too distant. You do sometimes see (some) 4x4 drivers pushing along in bad conditions and being arseholes - not us of course or SV who lives in an Igloo and would be better orrff with dogs and a sled

Sounds dramatic and didn't realise Tesco had got that far North. Do get some pics if you can. Don't forget to feed the Husky's!!

Ho ho - Tesco is everywhere! I think the furthest north one in Scotland would be 12 to 13 hours north of here - by ferry - in Lerwick!
It's nearer to Norway than John O'Groats.
I'm not so close to the North Pole as that - but it feels like it today.
My description of the blizzard may sound dramatic but it's pretty normal stuff for wintertime here.
As for feeding a Husky - the only Husky round here belongs to my neighbour at the other side of the hill - It's a Hillman Husky
I reckon that a 4X4 with a proper center diff lock is worse in snow because it's wheels are forced to break traction when turning. The VCU allows a bit of slip between the axles so the wheels don't need to slip which helps maintain traction. That's my theory on it anyway!!
I think you are forgetting, ideally you will be going in a straight line most of the time when traction is likely to be lost. Sure this sometimes wont be as easy but I think the benefits of Diff vs the cons of scrubbing on a slow turn (as you would be going slow) are far more.
