This is bollox, a snorkel can be made for any engine.
I dont want a snorkel fitted, although I do want to raise the intake to the side wing (as the defender has). Slap on a nice grill of some sort.
In the 1.8 k-series there is a split in the air intake, one is a hot air feed just behind the rad, the other is a rubber hose that leads into the wheel arch cavity.
I always thought this rubber hose was a cold air feed,,
I investigated by taking the wheel arch liner off. It leads to a sealed plastic box, yes thats right......... completely sealed.
Its a joke, designed for less noise to suit EU regulations, rip out the rubber hose and chuck the box away, its sufficating your engine.
You can run a snorkel hose from almost anywhere in the engine bay. Plus the wings are plastic, you could drill through with a standard circular hole saw.
