Seeing as the "Wife did good" thread sesms to be buggered, here's som pics of me trying to seal my snokel and air hoses. Jusr about ready to be refitted now. No water is getting in this time

Have also blocked up the fanny valve on the air box, but may consider fitting a wee tap.

Also going to make a rubber sealing strap-on out of an old inner tube to go round the join between the box cover and the body.

Well that went completely bloody pear shaped

Refitted snokel, then found hose to be only just about long enough, but that was only because I pulled on me hose to hard and pulled it out of the snokel

Plus, the air box connection was a fraction too small as well

Note to self: Sealant may be a good sealant, but its not a very good glue.

Note to self: Just cause it says its the right size on the tin, don't mean it will fit.

Back to square 1. Now using pleanty of Araldite first, then sealant and using the end of the original air hose for the final connection. Pics to follow.

I used Windscreen sealant/adhesive on mine, works really well, dries to a shiny blob .. but is still flexible ..

Landrover part No in this thread somewhere ..

dont forget the more joints/connections u have the more likely there will be leaks

Reminds me, I need to get mesel' one of them. Took the air filter off when doing the cam belt / water pump at the weekend and (not very suprisingly) it was full of mud and Salisbury Plain silt. I fought Scratchy had been a wee bit more smokey than usual! Reckon it's going to be a South Down one so I'm off to look at the South Down fred what's up there ^^^...

Ahha, I should have asked you first as it was your picture I took the idea from.

Well all the joins are Araldited now, and then sealed with Unibond silicone sealer. Going to gaffer tape and cable tie the joins, just to give them a little extra strength and protection then back on she goes.

At the event I was at couple or three weekends ago, at least three folk with snorkels drowned their Landies

So be warned new folk, or new snorkellers, the air intake vent aint the only place water cen get in!

Right then. Finished and all back together. Not the prettiest of jobs, but solid and with more silicone than Jordan. Cable tie seen in the engine bay is just to make sure hose does not drop down to sit on the steering rod.

You can see I used part of the original hose to the air box as the 1m plastic hose I bought off ebay was a tad too short and a tad too tight to get over the air box intake. If I were to do it again, I'd get a slightly longer hose, use WL's Tiger Seal method and work out a better air box connection to remove this extra join, but, I'm confident it's well sealed now. Total cost, about £15.

Also note, the fanny valve has been bunged up and silicone sealed too. Just need to make up a loop/seal out of an old inner tube to go round the air box cover join to the main box.
