Snorkel advice

Anyway, forgive me if I sound patronising but make sure you seal all of you pipes in the engine bay and get as much sealant as you can on the snorkel itself and between the inner and outer wing. I sealed the drain plug on my air box too but I'm not sure what other people think of that (better safe than sorry I thought). To neaten it up I got some black sealant and went around the outside of the snorkel and made it look smooth and consistent.

I will install snorkel and will use lots of black silicon which is generally used for sealing glasses ...

You remove the air intake grill on the side of the wing and fit it. Some minor issues with the instructions at the time.... ****e really, but plenty of tips about to cover it.
The Safari is just as good.... each to there own, but a little more work to fit. I went for the Mantec as it was cheaper, Land Rover fit them on new models (so must be good) and I like the way the air intake sucked air upwards rather than 'gather' it from what ever is coming ahead. I had no problems in very heavy wet snow getting into the air intake.
Some will say make your own, other good makes about as well.... all I can say is what I know about the Mantec. I would buy again if I decide to add one to my latest 110.

How did you seal the bottom end of the bit of the snorkel which goes onto the wing? The top half half has the nuts and bolts to tighten the seal against the wing but the bottom just has that little bracket and I've noticed in heavy rain there's a bit of leakage through the bottom of the snorkel. Thinking of bunging some sealant in against the edge.

The Mantec plastic jobby is no higher than the roof of the Defender itself.

If you have money to burn definitely get a safari. When I was living in Australia all they were using over there was safaris, because they're so tough. You don't really need to be worried about dust getting in with it etc, because everyone just speeds through the dust and all that at 140km/h and they're all fine

Yes, that's true, Safari are probably best snorkels available in the market, even if they are very expensive.
I will maybe plan to buy one in the future ...
 
Actually I chose the Mantec model since it has a flexible rubber section ... should I impact against a tree branch, I think the flexilble rubber section would prevent the snorkel to damage the wing (it is in aluminum and it is like paper) by absorbing the shock.

When I fitted mine I ensured that the bottom half was exactly flush against the wing before drilling the window frame. I also added a bead on Tiger Seal to the seal and then tightened the bolts to ensure it was water tight.

Cant see how rain will get inside the snorkel and give the impression of a leak? If you have doubts maybe start her up put some cling film loosley around the bottom part that bolts onto the wing and see if it gets sucked tight...... if okay, then hold a damp cloth over the intake slots at the top for a few seconds and see if the cling film get sucked tight.
A bead of Tiger Seal or similar will sort it out.

I was intentioned to purchase a Mantec Flexlite Plastic Jobby like yours but at the end I found a really cheap offer for the Mantec plastic traditional model.
