I buy stuff off ebay or Toolstation, you do not want to spend a fortune on tools that do little work. Snap off or other makes are for those with all the tools, but can they do the work ?

The CD I have does not cover the glowplugs. Mentioned their location, but no other sections. The tightness is only around 18nm. A well fitting ring spanner could take them out.

needs a deep socket mainly for the room to get them out plus you can only remove 3 as the fuel pump is in the way of the other one

thats probably the one that hasnt been changed. sounds more like glow plugs if only during the cold. OR could be oil leaking into the bore somehow when vechile is left for a while. Although i would of thought you would notice during the summer

You can always test the glow plugs.

Disconnect the power lead to all 4 glow plugs, Long bit of cable connected to battery + and flick it on the top of the glow plugs. It should spark as it is making a circuit. DONT hold it too long!
The one that doesnt spark is the one that doesnt work

Fitted 3 new bearmach glow plugs today so hoping tomorrow morning will be smokeless lol

Just need to buy a standard air filter to replace the cone I fitted to see if it will help

Well did the start up this morning and when it first starts it still lumpy idle for about 10secs still smokey but not as bad as it was

working on car over the weekend to see if i could find anything else with this smoking

after removing the intake pipe from the MAF to the turbo oil just spilled out maybe would say about 100ml if not a bit more

going to go about replacing the valve and fitting a oil catch tank on the breather pipe

a problem im seeing tho is catch tanks are 9 or 15mm and the breather pipe internal measures up at 20mm

Starting to confuseme a little

I havnt lost any oil since oil change yet thisproblem is still a cold weather problem only still

Car starts ok lumpy or 20secs max but after that its fine and goes aswell if not better than when I first got it.

Ihave not checked the timing at all been in the process of trying to eliminate pipes seals and stuff aka easier stuff

If the rain holds will take the fuel pump cover off and see what lines up

If the breather valve was faulty how much smoke would it produce. And would it start working after a few mins im hoping it isnt a engine fault which would prob see me get rid of this car

This is why im trying everything I can on the outside of the engine

good afternoons again peeps

had a mate come round give me some help

from the marks on the timing the fuel pump is ok but we have noticed today that the oil pipes i cleaned out have a little oil in them not sure if it was what we missed or not.

another thing we have noticed is that we left the inter-cooler to manifold pipe off and the smoking was worse and not just after a normal time

we then refitted the pipe and give it a rev a little puff then clear

could this be signs of turbo fault

no if you left a pipe off it should smoke...depending which one of course. It will be loosing the pressure from the turbo and so it will be over fueling causing black smoke

what about leak off pipes? if they are perished it wont help things. Are you SURE of your belt history? Your fuel pump timing only needs to be a gnats cock out to cause you problems, a stretched belt can cause this

The leak off pipes were new in march the pipe i left off today was the top inlet from inter cooler to inlet manifold

Thesmokewasnt black just the whitey blue as my problem

As for the link thank you for it but that is more for hard starting. My car has no problems starting

sorry went of onto a hard starting tangent....blue indicates oil but i dont know why it would be worse in winter if it was oil...
