hey up, i`ve got a smokey 300 tdi anyone got an idea what it could be.
when i lift off the gas it emits a white/pale blue smoke but only if the accelerator is lightly pressed it`s worse when cold.
let me eliminate a few things first,
it`s got a new turbo, it`s had a lot of money chucked at it ie rings stem seals bores honed annd stuff like that i`ve been told it needs the pump advancing can anyone confirm this ???

How many miles / months since the engine job?

The first questions to ask are
1. does the engine RUN? Does it run well?
2. does the oil pressure warning light go out smartish?
3. does it overheat? Make horrible noises?

If all these are OK, stop worrrying too much.

Assuming the smoke is a pale blue colour, is is probably engine oil beinmg burned off in the cylinders. It can come up the bores, down the valve stems, or in with the air usually from the turbo but also from the crankcase breather.

My advice is to ignore this meantime if the engine is running fine. If you are way down on power you might think about timing, but not otherwise.

It may stay the same, get better, or get worse. Once you know which you'll know when to think about it next.

Engine runs well, the oil light goes out within 5/10 seconds doesn`t overheat but can get warm if i nail it down the motorway for a good few miles.
it gets a worry at night anyone behind me is driving in fog...lol and it`s a copper stopper.
