The 3.0L TDV6 is the same basic engine as the 2.7L unit fitted to the D3 and early RRS, but with a longer stroke. The 3.0L is more likely to suffer bearing failure and crank failure, as the oil pressure is pathetic, and the boost comes in very early, exactly when there's little oil pressure to support the bearings. It's a garbage design, and very unreliable as a result.When you said knocking I was imagining a loud knocking noise.
All a bit irrelevant now since we are talking about different engines.
As a side note they still run with snapped crank, apparently.
Since I don't have a Range Rover probably best to wait for someone else to answer who has experience with that engine.
