Sluggish acceleration (gearbox)

Hi Everyone
2001 P38 2.5 D HDE 130,000 miles.

I've had a search of the forums but can't find anything specific to this.
I've owned it for a couple of weeks now and as I'm getting used to it, it seems very sluggish to accelerate particularly up hill.
The engine revs perfectly well and is, I'm sure, producing enough power. It just is very slow to accelerate.
One of the things I plan to do when the weather is warmer is the gearbox oil / filter.
But is there anything else that I should look at?
Or is it something I will have to get used to?

Don't buy an oil burner if you want acceleration

I have a diesel and find very few problems with acceleration, but you need to put your foot hard down for it to move with any sort of power. However I can now drive past petrol stations with impunity, whereas when I had the 4.6 ,I used to plan routes from fuel stop to fuel stop.

Unless the revs are climbing quickly far in excess of road speed it is safe to assume the box is not the problem. First thing to check is in tank pump, if that has failed or is failing loss of power on hills is a direct result. Also check the MAP sensor pressure pipe from under manifold to MAP sensor Check it is connected properly and is not blocked. That the outlet in the manifold is not blocked and that the pressure pipe has no splits or leaks. Any blockage in MAP sensor itself can be cleaned out with some electrical contact cleaner and a gentle blow with an air line. Repeating several times should clear it.

A diesel auto are the slowest ever. To get any respectable speed you'll need to get the ECU chipped.
You could, for the sake of £7, replace the engine temperature sensor. This sensor also has a somewhat control of the autobox.
