Freelander 1 Six speed gearbox?

On all my cars with 5-speed gearboxes I’ve been wishing for a 6th - although this is only ever when on the motorway... :)
I find that I'm looking for 7th when driving the Kuga on the motorway.
I wish that engine would fit in a Freelander. It's a lovely engine with oodles of torque, instantly available.:)

Anything over 30mph and mines in 5th. Even driving along at 30 I have the urge to put it in 5th and will do, but its not very safe cos if I put my foot down the ECU would say NO.

Are you sure you're not trying to put it in 6th
no. definitely 5th.there may be a underlying fault somewhere ,but even at 40 it seems to labour .a bit in 5th

Okay, I promised video and pics. The pics aren't that great, limited access with the engine tray in place as I'm sure you all know, but the gear selection video appears to be pretty definitive. Because the video is 167Mb, I've uploaded it to Youtube, here's the link:

When I get the car on the road properly, I will test for revs as the attitude laden Freelance suggests, but the difference in revs while pulling forward slightly is quite significant. It could be, as suggested, a worn gear selector, but it certainly doesn't feel that way.

It's 04, Hippo, definitely freelander 1, but it is a high specification edition.
It wouldn't matter what spec it was, even an HSE with every option. There was never a 6 speed gearbox offered. The only 6 speed PG1 available is a kit made Quife, designed for FWD Rover's and it cost almost £5K.
would a Freelander 2 box fit into a Freelander 1

Nope. Completely different engine, gearbox, mountings, and 4X4 system. So no, it won't have a Ford 6 speed gearbox fitted to it.

Well, it won't be long before it's finally on the road properly, so we'll find out once and for all then..........
