Series 3 Single line brakes or dual line?

I would go for a new master / swervo and get the dual circuit one. I wouldn't trust any of the brake work seeing how that exisitng master cyl was connected. If you are doing all the brake pipes then coverting to dual circuit is pretty much the same amount of work as single circuit.

If your going dual line do it without the brake failure switch very expensive and
no real benefit. Fluid level switch can be fitted to resevoir.

If it’s 77 model it’s single system. Go on Craddocks website and compare the visuals of the components. Dual is very different, post 81 models.

At best, a Series brake system is reliable and decently effective. At worst... it's non-existent. I'd redo it all and set up an original parts system, changing everything from pedal to pads. You don't want a dodgy security system.

Must be a prophetic comment! After passing the MOT the sodding brake cylinders have gone due to excessive brake pumping. As luck would have it I had front repair kit on the garage from 2018.

I rebuild all my brakes around 5 years ago, its a '70 LWB and now has dual circuit servo brakes. Last summer all front brake cylinder seals failed after a long hard drive with a lot of brakeing. The seals were very badly worn after around 6000 miles. The cylinders were not BP, I paid for a "better" make. It looks like the cylinder finish was poor (I have now honed them) and the seal material too hard. The BP cheapies fitted on the rear are of course working fine...I would not run single circuit brakes with the variable parts quality we are now getting.
