I saw on a you tube video someone discussing the possibility of removing the sill finisher as it was a rust trap.
Can anyone tell me if the sill finisher serves a purpose more that aesthetics and also has anyone had any experience with removing it and also is it worth doing?
Thank you in advance.

You can just remove them and clean behind, you will be surprised how much mud and dirt can collect over the years.

All the wheel arch was red lined and painted after, before refitting the wheel arch liners.

What an amazingly thorough job. I wish I had the skill set to do the same. I have the fl1 pre-facelift (53reg) td4 and I was thinking of removing the sill finishers and leaving off so that buildup did t occur.

Out of interest. Did you use a specific tool to remove the plastic clip things?

Just use your eyes - they will break as soon as you look at them, so why bother getting a special tool?
Yes I have broke nearly every one I have tried to take apart. I should look for a source of new ones really. That way I could brake away without fear of not being able to put back together again.
