Dear all.

When starting my Freelander from cold, I am noticing a significant amount vibration when idling and initially lots of white smoke.

The vibration eases over time, and it is not noticeable when above say 10 MPH.

When starting the engine from cold, there is a large smelly cloud of white smoke.

No other issues of note. I do not know if this is simply a reaction to the cold atm or a symptom of a problem that will persist (or is indeed more noticeable when it is cold!).

Are the two related? Would dropping an engine cleaner or injector cleaner into the engine help? If so, can you recommend a brand and model that won't wreck my TD4 55 plate engine?

Thanks in advance.

I use Diesel Magic monthly to keep my injectors working well.

Smoke when cold could well be down to bad glow plugs. I have a plug that is duff and I can't remove. I get a slight vibration and puff of white smoke when cold starting. I tend to fire my FBH up when it's really cold and doing so makes it start fine.
So it's well worth checking the glow plugs. ;)

Thanks. I'll do some googling.
