Sierra JX 89 4x4 Upgrades

Hi all,

I've just bought a little JX 89 model Soft top Sierra, I've Taken it
of road a few time and it handles great, but she still needs a bit of
work. I was looking to up the size of the engine and height(Lift Kit),
With a new gear box in it for rock hopping. does anyone have any good
tips for these things??

I'm about to do the Calmini suspension and lift kit

(The Sierra is called the Samurai in the US)

That plus going to 31" tyres, should raise her quite a bit.
I also really like the roof rack system for soft-tops, that they show in the
photo on the above page and provide the full details of it at this page
http://www.puresuzuki.com/safarirack.htm to import this one into Australia
is going to cost $1000 though, so I doubt I'll be doing the roof-rack for a
while.
Plus the "Long Ranger" brand, extended range fuel tank.

For the engine, I've decided against doing the Suzuki Swift GTi upgrade, as
I've heard it gets most power only over 4000rpm, which is too high for
off-road use.
The alternative Toyota Twin Cam, 1.6 engine upgrade is a little expensive.
So I'm going to see how she goes with a 2 inch exhaust, extractors, and a
hi-flow filter on the standard 1.3 litre she came with.


The company I use in Canberra Australia for mods to my Suzuki, also do a set
of rock-crawler gears to compensate for the larger tyres but I don't know
the details of the gears. Though there are heaps of them listed in 4WD
magazines.

The final upgrade will be air-lockers.
Though the Aussie-Locker may be available for Suzuki Sierra's by the time I
get around to that, since I spoke to the company that do the Aussie Lockers,
and they have said that the preliminary engineering, and the allocation of
financing has been done for them to go ahead with developing Suzuki Sierra
Aussie-Lockers, but even with that done, it's still likely to be mid/late
next year before they're available.

Thanks for the roof rack idea, I've been looking at a role bar but
that looks alot more practical...

Hi

I have just purchased my girlfriend a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 Limited
and looking for a 'cost effective' company to perform a 60,000 mile service.
I am based in Herfordshire and willing to travel a reasonable distance if
the saving is to my benefit.

Also does anyone know if the cambelt is changed on a 60K service or is this
extra?
