ok so if i put some blue spotlights on the front of my disco that came in a box that said "not for road use" then in theory i couldnt get an MOT failure for that... ?

You can obviously do what you like off road.
As spotlights aren't a testable item I don't see why they should be an issue at mot.
Unfortunately however unless you are a designated emergency vehicle it is illegal to display blue lights of any description on the front of a road going vehicle, this applies whether the lights are switched on or not.
If you get pulled by plod it's £60 and 3 points if I'm not mistaken. Mabye they won't bother on Skye, you could always ask.:)
The way round it is to fit your blue lights and put covers on them whilst on the road and at mot for that matter. The tester is not allowed to remove covers to inspect.

Im sure newer BMW 5 series have amber side lights (led) built in to the top and side of the head light, looks good in my opinion,I have also come a cropper with people thin king im turning when in fact im not, i just take extra care at junctions.

Now funnily enough, one overtook me on the motorway last night with orange lights in the headlights! ironic isnt it!!
