hi again, this question will sound daft but hear goes i have seen some side steps for sale but the ad says they are for short wheel base freelander to be honest i don't know what is the short one and which is the long one i have looked on Google pics but still no wiser so can someone let me know thanks :
 
I have a Kalahari too. I just measured my sidesteps and they are 1.66m long. There are 3 mounting brackets on each and they are adjustable along the length of the step. Hope this helps.
 
thanks i have sent the advertiser a message to ask him if they will fit a Kalahari, as i have told him i don't know if it is a swb or lwb but on these there are only two mounting brackets on each and these are adjustable
 
3 mounting brakets ? there are only 2 the length of the bodies on 3 door and 5 door are the same there is a hight difference the 5 door is 20mm higher and the rivenuts for fixing the steps are 10mm hope this helps you out
 
just had an email back from the bloke who is selling em and this is what he said. "Not sure if they will fit, these came off a 3 door hardback model W reg and they changed the spec in 2003". so i am still no wiser

Some of the service and workshop stuff is subscription, but all the manuals and the fitting instructions for things like side steps are available free.

I've just checked it and the instructions show diagrams of where the rivenuts go and all the info you get with when you buy a new set from a dealer.

I have looked in an old accessoires brochure I have for the Freelander. There is no diffrence in side protection runners and side steps for the three and five door. Yep, 10mm rivenuts as Teddywood and Singvogel mentioned.
 
Make sure you get the brackets and check that they are in good nick, they're like rocking horse poop.

I had to remake the brackets as mine just rusted away, getting the angles correct was a bit tricky and had to use trial error for the correct hole positions, (front and rear are different).

But as already stated, they're all the same sill length.

OK thanks never heard of rivenuts before but once i get the side steps no doubt i will probably be asking a few questions cheers
 
The side steps on my 3 door Freelander originally came from a 5 door model - they are the same - no such thing as a SWB and LWB Freelander :)
 
now i know what you mean, when i was plumbing i used thousands of similar fixings to these for hanging rads on cavity walls, i may still have some of these and the tool to fix em in place, nice link Richard. are the holes pre-drilled in the chassis or do you have to drill em your self?
 
if you have not got the tool for doing the rivnuts here is how to do it put a washer on the rivnut hole small enough so not to go over the nuts then put 3 nuts on tighten two of the nuts together (top two). so they are locked and put a spanner on them to hold then the bottom nut should be tightened against the washer holding the rivenut in place make sure first you have the proper holes in the chassie line you step hangers up with the holes so you know which is which there are some bigger holes probably behind tape but these are not the ones you will see when you get under
