Side steps and rock sliders...

I want to remove my side steps and fit some rock sliders.

However, if I remove my side steps, various people who need to get into the Landy will no longer be able to, so I need to keep the side steps attached. And no, I do not need them. Other people do!

So... if I remove the side steps and fit some rock sliders, are the rock sliders going to be higher than the side steps? I assume so.

If this is the case, are there any steps that fold away underneath (but above the lowest point) that I can attach so people can still get into the vehicle without needing a ladder or caravan step on?

Basically... what are my options (if any)?

And no, I am not able to manufacture something myself. No skills or tools to enable me to do so, sadly.
 
Rock sliders with tree bars. Paint tops with non slip paint.
You can use them as steps job done!

Might be worth getting with hi jack points too

Got tree slidewrs on mine, bit of rubber inner tube cabled tied round bars

perfect steps,

If you like playing fit a bit of chequer plate or similar between tree bar an slider then you have proper steps
 
great idea with the chequerplate!

your side steps would get ripped off in an instant when you come to use the sliders in anger.

tree sliders are a must have mate, makes your vehicle FAR more capable when the going is very tough.

I think the problem with tree bars is that they are higher than the side step... The side step is already borderline too high, and raising it by a couple more inches might be too much.

Presumably the rock sliders/tree bars bolt directly to the metal above the step (currently behind a plastic facia on my Disco), right?
 
Yes bud thats right, the sill. As long as it's not rotten! Take the sill cover off and have a look, you might have more on your mind than rock sliders!!
 
rock sliders are fitted different ways but yes they will be higher than the step and i wouldnt think you could have both fitted at the same time.

when i had mine fitted i thought about getting a strip of grip tape (similar to that used on ladders/skateboards etc.) and sticking it to the top of the tree slider.
 
tree/rock sliders basically replace the plastic mud catcher/sill covers that runs along the bottom of your doors so in answer to your question. yes they will be slightly higher than the side steps but my wife is only just over 5 foot and my 8 yr old daughter can get in my disco without any problems. so unless your passengers are midgets (no offence intended) then they should'nt have any trouble getting in and out the vehicle.

yeah thats it mate.

the rocksliders mount at the same height as the plastic trim.

align your wood with the top edge of that (so the doors will open with about half an inch gap) and youve pretty much got the idea.

you may find they are slightly lower though, mine are bent so they are lower in the middle, and the tre bar is mounted halfway up the slider, so from door edge to bar its about 1"

but puerly for the advise as this is a question i get asked abought quite alot

sliders with tree bars are a good way of fitting heavy duty side steps as a lot of my customers buy them purely for this reson
but be warned wet sliders are verry slipery
but for a simple solution and also looks grate is apply some anti slip tape to the top of them ant then there absolutely fine wet or dry
most rock slider manufactures can do this for you (i do ) or you can simply buy it your self
i get it from a company near me called Arco im sure there stores are all over the uk
and yes there a bought 3" higher than the top of a standard disco step but still a perfect height as the standard disco step in my opinion is to low any way

and also another point worth making is most of us fit or intend to fit bigger tyres to our discos so when enquiering abought a set make shure you ask if thay can be made shorter to suit your cut down arches
ive suplyed sets with 5+" off eather end i think thay must hav fitted tyres off a masey furgison?????

Why not get a set of plain rock sliders with jack points, the you can have a step made that runs the lenght of the slider, that has arms that fit the jacking points, drill a hole thruogh the jacking arm tubes trough the step arms and lock off with a pin and clip, this would make them removable when not required.

Hope that I have explained the idea well enough.......
