Hi all,

I have just broken the rear O/S mounting bracket for the side step on my 06 HSE. The vertical strap that bolts to the chassis at the outboard end has rotted and fallen apart.

I have wired it up for now but will need to replace it (and maybe the others as they are probably of the same age and rotten too.

Anyone got a set for sale or can point me in the direction of a set? They are aluminium with black caps either end.

Thanks

David

There is a metal box section that is bolted to the underside of the step and goes across to a chassis member. Vertical to this there is a strap that goes up the inside of the cill box and is bolted to the inside of the sill box. That is the bit that has broken away.

It needs a service soon so I could get them to weld a new strap onto the box section but I wondered if they were freely available.

Thanks for the reply.

Er..no not really!

I prefer things to be right rather than a bodge. A new or repaired bracket will do me.

And you chose to buy a Freelander lol. Better get yourself a tool box and fill it with tools, you'll soon find out how to use them. Owning a Freelander is an ongoing hobby lol.

If you can do repairs your self it will save you a lot of money in the long run. I'm lucky that way as I have a garage and a load of tools a mig welder, and a compressor and have been playing around with cars for years.

I used to race Minis and Escorts many years ago. I could do all that sort of stuff then but modern cars are so complicated that DIY is more difficult.

I don't have metal working tools or a welder so reckon I'll have to get local garage man to weld a new bracket on when I have it serviced.

Take your point about it being a hobby. Got that message loud & clear with my Disco. lol

Saying that I used to get my head under the bonnet with mini's escorts cortina's then years of having company cars put a stop to it all until I got my Freelander. It really is very easy to work on or I think it is anyway but saying that I've got a pit in the garage so haven't had to get on my back. Some of the modern cars would scare the hell out of me to be honest.

Don't suppose you happen to be in Derbyshire do you?
I left my mig at home in Weston super mare and need to weld up the running boards on the hippo.

Thanks

Other side bracket just broken too. Rotted through.

Temporarily bound it up with binding wire. Job for the weekend though.

Why doesn't anyone make anything to last these days!?
